home is where i want to be

beautiful spring santa barbara days like these make me nostalgic and excited for even more beautiful summer nights.  the delicate breeze and peaceful sun remind me of good times spent with friends new and old- drinking, laughing, making memories to the sounds of talking heads, van morrison, the beatles…

here’s a short playlist i put together today in anticipation of summer nights

{somewhat schizophrenic but sure to please}:

domino- van morrison

40 day dream- edward sharpe & the magnetic zeros

you make loving fun- fleetwood mac

kiss with a fist- florence and the machine

heartbeats- the knife

this must be the place (naive melody)- talking heads

iron lion zion- bob marley

right as rain- adele

radioactive- kings of leon

lady madonna- the beatles

listen to the music- the doobie brothers

romantic nudes

no matter what the new “it” color lipstick/lipgloss palette is, my forever go-to color is a beigey-porcelin-nude. for me, there is nothing more romantic than a glossy skin toned lip paired with a dewey fresh face.  here a few of my favorites:

MAC c-thru lipglass, $14.50

NARS striptease lip gloss, $24.00

NARS chelsea girls lip lacquer, $24.00

laura mercier glistening sand lip glace, $20.00

m.v’s top 5 {daily} must haves:

1. iconic accessories:

think Hermes/Chanel/YSL. A staple bracelet, vintage necklace,or “it” shoe is a must.

2.  fabulous flats:

i always find that a demure ballet flat is a sweet way to complete almost any outfit- from menswear inspired looks to black tie goddess gowns. while lanvin flats and the perfect little blue boxes they come in dominate my wardrobe, i always delight in frugal finds from unlikely designers such as H&M and Banana Republic. my new favorite find are the super comfy slippers from sue london, coming in a myriad of colors and with relatively affordable prices when compared to any coveted lanvin pair, they are the perfect addition to any closet.

SPLURGE: Lanvin, $500-$800 a pair

STEAL: Sue London, $175 a pair

3.  the perfect fit:

living in laid back santa barbara lends a lot of freedom to dress casually, even for the most dedicated fashionista.  therefore, many days are spent rotating my elaborate denim collection. from boyfriend jeans to jeggings, retro 70′s throw backs to denim trousers, the key to any denim based outfit is finding jeans that fit just right. this is definitely a wardrobe staple worth splurging {investing} on, and here are some of my tried and true favorites.

J Brand lightweight love story jeans, $179.00

goldsign cropped boyfriend jeans, $209.00

paige verdugo contrast legging in twilight, $158.00

current/elliot boyfriend cutoff short in sugar destroy, $188.00

4.  ghetto gold nameplates:

ever since carrie stepped out with what would become her own wardrobe staple, i have worn a gold nameplate spelling out my own moniker.  now older, in love, and living with my wonderful boyfriend, i find that my {morgan} necklace has taken a hiatus, now replaced by my two finger ring spelling out the abbreviated surname of my {live-in}.

5. partner in crime:

with my best friend living 3,000 miles away in bustling manhattan, and my boyfriend working hard, i often find myself with my baby english bulldog by my side.  whether shopping, perusing farmers markets, traveling to LA, or blogging, he’s always there. by far the best fashion accessory i’ve purchased yet:
